Our Story

MHC Pottery workshops are ideal for beginners and those new to working with clay. If you’ve never tried pottery before, we warmly invite you to join us and experience the joy and satisfaction of creating something functional and unique with your hands.
Each session is centered around a specific theme or project, allowing participants to choose the projects they wish to explore. The classes follow a step-by-step approach, making them ideal for beginners or those returning to clay after a break.
We are a close-knit team of five sisters, each bringing our own artistic vision and passion to our pottery business. Together, we create pieces that reflect our diverse talents, from functional wares to decorative treasures. While we each have our individual strengths, it’s our collaboration that truly brings our creations to life.
I’m Julie, a potter with over 15 years of experience. My passion lies in creating both functional and decorative pottery, with a special love for garden-inspired pieces. Gardening influences much of my work, from hand-thrown planters to whimsical garden accents. I enjoy sharing my craft by teaching workshops, helping others tap into their creativity while passing down pieces that can be cherished for generations. Additionally, I’m always brainstorming fresh workshop ideas, ensuring that every class is an opportunity for learning, fun, and artistic growth. Wheel throwing is my true passion, and you can often find me at my wheel whenever I have a spare moment, fully immersed in the art of shaping clay and constantly pushing my skills to new heights.
My sister Sandy is a true artist with an impeccable eye for detail. Her steady hand and love for fine details are evident in every piece she creates, although she’ll be the first to admit that these details can sometimes be frustrating. However, those challenges are what lead to her most stunning and intricate creations. Sandy is one of the creators behind our beloved Highland Cow series, and her deep love for farm animals is woven into many of her pieces. Skilled in both wheel throwing and hand-building techniques, Sandy brings incredible versatility to our work.
Diana, the dreamer of our group, is constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in pottery. She thrives on creating the most challenging pieces and has a knack for transforming bold visions into breathtaking designs, demonstrated in her Bubble Glazed pieces. Her determination and willingness to experiment allow her to bring innovative, one-of-a-kind pieces to life. Diana’s talent for working collaboratively and having creative discussions also makes her a valuable asset to our workshops, where her insights and ideas help inspire others.
Karen, our designer, has the unique ability to envision pottery pieces that seamlessly integrate into your home, kitchen, or garden. She’s a master at creating designs that are not only beautiful but functional as well. Karen’s designs are made to enhance everyday life, whether they’re a striking statement piece for your kitchen or a garden planter that brings charm and personality to your outdoor space. Her ability to take an idea and turn it into a functional design is key to our success. Karens Moroccan Inspired collection is always a customer favorite.
Kathy, the bossy sister (in the best way possible!), is our creative powerhouse. Kathy is known for coming up with brilliant ideas for all kinds of pottery pieces, from bold designs to functional pieces that surprise and delight. Once she has an idea, Kathy executes it to perfection, ensuring that each piece is crafted with care and precision. Kathy is also an inspiration for many of our workshop ideas, motivating us to explore new techniques and designs that encourage creativity and self-expression. Kathy is the creator of our popular Ghost and Pumpkin Collection. She is currently working on an exciting collection for the 2025 holiday season.
Behind all of us is our mother, Barbara, who has been the true source of our inspiration. As a bridal seamstress and avid flower gardener, Barbara taught us the value of hard work, creativity, and making beautiful things. Her dedication to her craft and her nurturing spirit instilled in us the belief that beauty can be created with both hands and heart. We carry her lessons with us in everything we do, and her influence continues to shape our pottery and our business.
Together, we bring our distinct personalities and skills to our pottery business, each of us playing an important role in the creative process. From concept to execution, we are committed to making pottery that brings joy, beauty, and functionality to the lives of our customers. It’s the blend of our individual talents, our shared passion, and our teamwork that makes our creations truly special.
